Anna, wonders.
I have a question that pertains to the time before a treatment. The patient has Fibromyalgi. The pain is mainly located at the neck, shoulders and knees. When she has been lying down for a while, her fingers start to go numb. Is there another position she can lie in? I have a traditional massage table, where she lies with her arms down and forward.
After the treatment she gets more pain in her lower back. I do give her massage there, but am I doing something wrong?
The answer from our expert:
The fingers getting numb are due to a nerve getting pressed in a way it shouldn’t. Why don’t you try with keeping her arms along the body instead? Then you can massage the shoulders from the front when she later lies on her back. When it comes to the lower back, I would try to vary the height of the cushion under her ankles. When she is lying on her back, I would make sure that her legs are elevated, by cushion/s under her knees so that the hip is bent.
There is nothing wrong in doing the massage, but it is very important to find the correct rest position, so as not to provoke more pain.

How often can I have fibro massage?
The answer from our expert:
In both the projects the massage was given twice a week for 7 weeks.
It is better to do a more intensive treatment than once a month.
Talk to your Fibro Masseur and decide what is best for you.

Can I take a course in fibro massage even if I am not a therapist?
The answer from our expert:
No, but there are courses for patients and relatives that Fibro associations arrange sometimes.
Contact your local association and request them to arrange a lecture/course if there are interested people.

Why is it that when I click on an area/place on the fibro masseur web site, nothing happens?
The answer from our expert:
Most people have blocked popup-windows in the Web reader.
